Desperate of buying an Ipad2, 17 year old boy, from Anhui province, sold one of his kidneys for 22 yuan ($3,400 or PHP142,800). The boy regretted his decision when his health conditions are getting worse.
According to the boy, a broker contacted him on the internet that specialized in selling kidneys. On April 28, 2011, the boy went to Chenzhou City—Anhui province neighbor—for the kidney removal surgery without his parent’s consent. After surgery, he was paid 22 yuan in Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital and immediately went home.
His mother found out about the surgery and reported to the police; however, they can’t contact the broker whose cellphone is turned off.
To make matters worse, Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital was not certified to perform organ transplant. The hospital said that they were not aware of the boy’s operations, since the personal who operated the surgery has been contracted to a Fujian Business man.
